Published: June 29, 2017

When Kendal at Lexington, located in Lexington, Va., opened its doors in July 2000, it soon filled its independent living residences. About 60 percent of its current residents came from the local area, but other residents moved to the community from locations ranging from Maine to Florida and as far west as California, Colorado and Arizona.

To accommodate more residents, Kendal at Lexington is building 30 new cottages with views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The cottages will feature front porches, bay windows in the kitchens, large living and dining areas and en-suite master bedrooms.

Residents will have several cottage choices, ranging from 1,400 square feet to 1,750 square feet. Cottages feature two bedrooms, two full baths, a one- or two-car garage, and an optional sunroom and/or den. The plan also includes expanded and renovated dining and health centers.

Kendal at Lexington is situated on 85 acres. Community amenities include a fitness center, indoor pool, library, restaurant and auditorium. With maintenance-free living and access to a full continuum of care, the pet -riendly campus features covered walkways, a historic guest house, landscaped grounds and walking trails.
