Carolina Senior Living Apartments, part of United Church Homes and Services (UCHS; Newton, N.C.), has opened a three-story building with 30 one-bedroom affordable residential units for low-income, at-risk seniors in Lexington, NC.
The units have an open floor plan, with a fully operational kitchen, individually controlled heating and cooling system, and secured entry. Features include an elevator, a multipurpose community room with a kitchen, a screened-in porch, a common laundry room, library, a welcoming lobby, and an office for staff.
The new apartments are adjacent to and closely associated with a UCHS sister facility, Carolina SeniorCare, a Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). The two programs work to fill a void within the Lexington community for seniors who are economically challenged and often frail or at risk. Carolina Senior Living provides a safe and secure neighborhood setting for those 62 and older with limited resources, while Carolina SeniorCare PACE provides socialization, hot meals, clinical care and transportation.
