Maplewood Senior Living (Westport, Conn.) has broken ground on Maplewood at Stony Hill (Bethel, Conn.), a new assisted living and memory care community. Scheduled to open in fall 2014, the facility will be the first stand-alone assisted living facility in the state of Connecticut and will offer care for those with dementia, Alzheimer's, neurological disorders, and Parkinson's disease.

The three-story community will consist of a mix of private, deluxe studio, and one bedroom apartments for residents who wish to remain independent with assistance in activities of daily living.

The design concept divides each floor into two neighborhoods of 15 residents, each with its own residential environment that includes activity areas, living rooms, and independent dining areas.

Maplewood at Stony Hill is being designed in a New England craftsman style to express a handcrafted and detailed exterior.

Perkins Eastman is the architect for the project.
