Cabot Park Village, a 30-year-old independent living community in Newtonville, Mass., is undergoing a $22 million renovation and expansion designed to modernize its infrastructure, increase residential capacity, and enhance the overall resident experience.
Scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2027, the project responds to sustained demand for senior housing by adding 18 studio, one-, and two-bedroom residences, while updating existing spaces to better support connection, wellness, lifelong learning, and active lifestyles.
Interior renovations and wellness amenities in senior housing
The design approach, led by Bechtel Frank Erickson Architects (BFE Architects; Lexington, Mass.) and Merlino Design Partnership (King of Prussia, Pa.), balances contemporary style with warm residential features. Sophisticated finishes—including custom millwork, stone fireplaces, wood accents, and richly textured fabrics—create inviting, layered spaces throughout.
In the new bar and dining room, a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace serves as a focal point, complemented by a suspended walnut slat ceiling, walnut furnishings, and accents of forest green and gold. In the lobby, a 3D woven architectural screen creates a striking backdrop, enhanced by modern gold chandeliers.
A redesigned first floor introduces a new lobby and reception area, bistro and fireside lounge, movie theater, lecture space, and club room. Wellness improvements include a renovated indoor pool and an upgraded health club and spa with a massage room.
Additional features include an expanded dining room, reimagined library, resident art gallery, and a new rooftop sky lounge with indoor and outdoor seating.
