The Goldton at Venice, an Atlas Senior Living (Birmingham, Ala.) community in Nokomis, Fla., offered shelter and comfort to people seeking refuge from Hurricane Milton, according to a news release.

More than 200 residents, staff, local families, and evacuees were sheltered at the community, which is located in a non-flood zone about two miles from Sarasota Memorial Hospital (Sarasota, Fla.). Because the community is on the same power grid as the hospital, electricity was restored quickly. During a brief power disruption, a generator kept the community fully operational, including the kitchen which provided meals for all.

The senior living community houses independent living and assisted living units.
